Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 now in Philippine mobile shops
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Android tablet has finally started to become available in mobile shops in the Philippines. One shop is selling the 16GB wifi/3G version for Php 25,490.00 and the 32GB wifi/3G version for about 29,990.00.
The specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is similar to the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the exception of the display size but still having a resolution of 1280 x 800. The smaller 8.9-inch display produces a better looking image using that same 1280 x 800 resolution.
Like the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 doesn’t have voice support. I think this trend of not supporting voice functionalities in tablets is an indication of things to come — people will start using these devices to make VoIP calls using things like Skype to communicate with people. But at this point, especially in the Philippines, data speeds are still slow to have a reliable voice communication via VoIP. And since local telcos are actually include voice functionalities in the SIM cards that were once data only, I think that the upcoming Galaxy Tab 7.7 (which has support for voice), will sell well in the Philippines.
